Nest has introduced a new temperature sensor that works together with its thermostats. From the Nest app, homeowners can set up the preferred temperature in the room where the sensor is located. If they have multiple sensors at home, they can also choose which one to prioritize at a certain time of the day.

Each Nest Thermostat can pair up to six temperature sensors, and they can be at maximum 50 feet away from the thermostat. The new sensor work only with the latest Nest Learning Thermostat model or the Nest Thermostat E.

However, Nest’s sensor isn’t as advanced as other competitors. For instance, Ecobee’s temperature sensor knows when people are physically in the room and gives priority to the room automatically.

From the approaches of both companies, it seems that temperature sensors have become necessary since the whole house cannot rely on a temperature sensor in the thermostat to adjust temperature.

Nest Temperature Sensor will be available for US$39 starting this April.

Along with the new product announcement, Nest has also officially launched its long-waited new products – the Nest Hello video doorbell and Nest x Yale smart door lock. And they work as a whole system with other Nest gadgets.

For example, when the homeowner unlock the Nest x Yale lock and enter the house, the Nest Cam IQ Indoor will stop recording due to user privacy, the Nest Thermostat will adjust to the preferred temperature and the Nest Secure alarm system will disalarm automatically.

Although there might be similar products in the market already, Nest build those new gadgets to complete its picture for a full smart home powered by Nest.

Further, after going back operating under Google, Nest’s products play now nicely with Google’s smart home platform. In addition to support Google Assistant in a more natural way, the assistant is also built-in the Nest Cam IQ Indoor, making it working just like a Google Home speaker.

The Nest Hello doorbell is now for sale at US$229, and the Nest x Yale smart door lock for US$249.
