For good or worse, home automation – while technologically convenient – may eventually evolve into a given where people will take it for granted (similar to how the mobile phone transformed our daily live and daily grind.)

But will the day people become “so lazy” that we even can't roll out of bed to switch off the bedroom lights, or physically walk to the coffee machine to brew coffee become a reality?

This phenomenon, although trivial to majority of the public, has since become the topic of banter, as online critics often raise such questions about the so-called smart home.

According to a recent report by online media mogul Fox News, “critics are complaining that instead of simplifying our lives, smart devices are making things needlessly complicated,” suggesting that users are constantly toiling over installation procedures, and troubleshooting software crashes.

In a similar report, critics also warned that smart home technology could lead homeowners to a new level of laziness, exemplified by the fact that there are already smartphone apps to let you control your blinds, lights, TV, etc. without the manual exhaustion of leaving your couch. The danger of it all, the report said, will be that people will eventually become so accustomed that we will take the technology for granted.

Put simply, will the majority of us throw ourselves into a hysterical fit if things don't turn out our way? Or metaphorically speaking, become a “spoiled brat.”

But looking from another perspective, technology – to some extent – has always been part of our lives, as engineers, scientists, and industry experts the world over continue to go on an endless quest to concoct new inventions.

Trivial or not, only time will tell.
