Google’s smart home brand Nest has announced a new version of Thermostat E, which is tailored for the European heating system and professional installation is not required.
The European edition of Thermostat E includes two components: a thermostat device and a Heat Link E to be wired into the home boiler.
Most U.S. homes have a central heating system, but European homes rely on a water boiler that feeds radiators to warm up each room. Nest added the Heat Link E that makes everything work just like how it does in the U.S.
Homeowners will need to take out two wires out of an existing heating controller and plug them into battery-powered Heat Link E.
The thermostat then can be placed anywhere homeowners prefer. Different from the U.S. model that can be installed on the wall, the European edition of Thermostat E has a base platform, so it can sit anywhere in the house as long as there’s a power outlet.
Both devices have temperature sensors built-in, so they can work together to ensure the heating will function normally.
First introduced in last August, the Nest Thermostat E has a more affordable price compared to the original Nest Thermostat, while featuring the same behavior-learning capability. It will remember when homeowners turn the heating system on most often, and make automatic adjustments after a while.
While the U.S. version is shipped with no prior knowledge of the user, the European version is shipped with a simple pre-programmed schedule, which has been developed based on Nest’s existing customer data.
The Thermostat E will also have features found in the flagship device, including Home/Away Assist, Auto Scheduling, usage report and eco option.
The Nest Thermostat E will start shipping in mid-October at £199 or €219.
