MitraStar: Fulfilling customer needs and expectations in smart home manufacturing

At CES 2016, MitraStar officially announced its involvement in the smart home by unveiling its “Smarter Connected” theme consisting of gateway controllers, set-top boxes, cloud storage, the latest G.fast, LTE CPE, Carrier Aggregation, Wi-Fi offload. Small Cell, Mobile backhaul, as well as multiple-platform STB and NAS products that power the next-generation smart networks and smart living.
 
The growing maturity of the smart home sector has led MitraStar to enter the market. “Our broad product line forms a solid foundation with which we adopt to develop the smart home market,” MitraStar General Manager Kim Huang said. In today’s high-bandwidth world, MitraStar offers comprehensive VDSL, GPON, 10G EPON solutions for central offices and CPEs in addition to G.fast and 10G EPON products for demanders who seek next-generation seamless Internet applications. 

In terms of smart home, the company offers home cloud solutions consisting of multimedia routers, MU-MIMO WiFi (802.11ac) AP, home security systems, digital set-top boxes, and home cloud storages for users to build their own smart living environments. The set-top box portfolio includes pay-per-view STB to HD and HEVC 4K2K STB that is capable of high-resolution video, data synchronization and the flexibility to work with other devices – such as home security and multimedia storage devices. The holistic design allows users to have their very own cloud, manage and share their media with ease through comprehensive digital life solutions.

The experience has particularly spurred MitraStar’s development of smart home gateways. “With over 10 million shipments of gateways all around the world, we can integrate customized modules into the gateway for various applications. The core of smart home gateway is ready,” Huang said, adding that the prevalent requirements of ZigBee, low power LTE, and low power Bluetooth are parts of MitraStar’s domain know-how. 

MitraStar has focused on product design and technology services such as integration, OEM/ODM, and also application development to provide the solutions to leading networking and communications brand companies in the world.

While working closely with service providers like MSOs and telecom operators through system integrators, MitraStar’s smart home products are primarily focused on developed markets in North America and Europe. According to Huang, MitraStar is able to provide a smart home solution for AllSeen ecosystem. “But we are very open to any other standards or ecosystems. MitraStar can fulfill customer needs quickly and that is our strength in the competitive market.”
