DIY home security system SimpliSafe adds Google Assistant support

DIY home security system SimpliSafe adds Google Assistant support
SimpliSafe has added Google Assistant support to let users check their security system status or arm the system via voice commands
SimpliSafe, a DIY home security system provider, has added Google Assistant support. Once connecting to their Google accounts, SimpliSafe users can start talking to the assistant and ask about the status of their security systems or to arm the systems.

Possible voice commands include “Hey Google, arm SimpliSafe to Away” and “Hey Google, set the security system to Home.” Users may also ask a question like “Hey Google, am I protected?” to check the status of the security system.

According to the company, SimpliSafe is one of the first home security systems to work with Google Home’s continued conversation feature, to let users ask Google Assistant several questions continually without repeating “Hey Google.”

Besides using voice, users may also type their commands in the Assistant app to execute automation features.

Users cannot ask the assistant to disarm the system now, but the company said the functionality will be available in the future.

The Google Assistant voice feature is included in SimpliSafe’s professional monitoring subscription plan, which costs US$24.99 per month and allows users to monitor the system remotely from a mobile app.

Earlier this year, SimpliSafe added Amazon Alexa support to its home security system. The system also works with Nest thermostat and August smart locks. When the system is armed or disarmed, these smart devices will also change their status automatically.

SimpliSafe just redesigned its smart home hub and sensor system at the beginning of the year. The company claimed that it is protecting over two million people now, and 70% of its customers never had a home security system before.

“SimpliSafe is on a mission to make every home secure. This integration with the Google Assistant gives our customers even more options for easy and intuitive system arming,” said Chad Laurans, founder and CEO of SimpliSafe.
