Alea Air improves air quality and saves energy in homes

Alea Air improves air quality and saves energy in homes
Alea Labs has introduced a smart air quality control system that aims to help homeowners breath cleaner air.
Alea Labs, a startup based in California, has introduced a smart air quality control system for smart homes that aim to help homeowners breath better air at home.

While homes may have basic HVAC systems or thermostats to adjust temperatures for ideal comfort levels, air quality, which is also very important to establish comfort, is not adjustable from the HVAC system. This is why Alea Labs created the Alea Air system.

A vent developed by Alea Labs is equipped with 11 separate sensors, allowing it to detect temperature, air quality and other environmental variables.

When a home is installed with multiple vents, they will work together on data analysis through the cloud that is powered by machine learning. The engine will automatically decide for homeowners how to adjust variables in the home to have a more comfortable living space. The decision is made after taking into consideration of room-by-room preferences, weather forecasts, occupancy, room size and orientation and time of the day.

The system works with the central heating and cooling system to deliver result and adjust the air flow. According to Alea Labs, the Alea Air can also help lower home energy expenses and conserve energy.

“To date, no smart home solution has suitably solved the widespread issue of uneven airflow and unhealthy air quality in the home,” says Hamid Farzaneh, CEO and co-founder of Alexa Labs, in a statement.

“The Alea Air system leverages leading-edge technology, big data and advanced analytics in order to offer comfort cleaner air, and a smaller environmental footprint through more efficient heating and cooling.”

According the company, Alea’s vents can be easily installed by homeowners themselves.

Users can set up room-by-room temperature preferences, monitor air quality and control the device remotely via the companion mobile app.

The Alea Air starter kit includes three vents as well as the connectivity Airhub for US$379. An extra vent will cost US$119. Alea Labs will start the shipments in January 2019.
