Why is IP video door entry system and home automation integration trending
IP video door entry systems have long played a key role in maintaining the safety and security of buildings and residents. More and more, they are also integrated with home automation systems to provide further convenience for users.
That was a point raised by Fermax in a recent blog post titled “Innovation in homes: IP video door entry systems and home automation.”
Fermax published the post amid the growing trend of home automation, which enables users to automate, control and monitor multiple devices in the home effectively. According to a new market research report by MarketsandMarkets, the home automation system market was valued at US$39.93 billion in 2016 and is expected to reach $79.57 Billion by 2022, at a CAGR of 11.3 percent during the period.
According to the Fermax post, home automation integrates four types of services: energy management, comfort, security systems and communications. Yet apart from these, Fermax also pointed out three fundamental reasons for home automation that are summarized as follows:
  • Communication: Unlimited technical capacity for conversations and data transmission has allowed the exterior and interior of the home to connect to the outside world, ensuring the privacy of each resident and enabling interactivity between the community.
  • Security: The connection with the staff of the building is reliable, permanent and simple, allowing the protection and security of buildings/complexes.
  • Comfort: Allows customized automation according to the specific needs of each resident, granting them freedom, value and comfort.
According to the post, while there is a perception that home automation is pricey, this is not always the case. “There is the preconceived idea that home automation is expensive and that is difficult to maintain. However, a home automation installation represents approximately the 1 percent of the property total price. The benefits that entail the modernization of a property are, for example, the possibility to save up to 26 percent in energy consumption. Thus the home automation becomes a positive investment,” it said.

Integration with video door entry systems

More and more, home automation is integrated with the video door entry system so that the user can control and manage various home devices via the same video door entry monitor.
Indeed, according to the post, today the highlight in the market is the integration between IP video door entry systems and home automation. “From the IP video door entry monitors, it is possible to manage completely automated devices installed in the residence. Moreover, the management is done easily. If you want to monitor the devices remotely, it is also possible from a tablet or smartphone. This advantage makes possible to integrate communications, security and comfort systems in a single device,” it said. “IP video door entry systems and home automation is the perfect connection of well-being in home.”
Central to this integration is the IP monitor, which Fermax said presents the following features: OSD logical interactive menus on all devices, standard intuitive interaction icons, selectable tones for each notification, touch keypad when required on VIVO devices, monitor status LEDs, system management via computers, different access levels (profiles) for PMU software, 3.5” display on the outdoor panels.
According to the post, Fermax has three terminals that allow establishing a connection with a third-party home automation server: VIVO, VIVO + and SMILE LYNX. Third-party apps that are certified by Fermax may be installed in the monitors as well, it said.
“Fermax IP monitors are compatible with other services, so you can install other apps. If your aim is to implement a system that improve the efficiency of house or business while providing an optimal level of security, an IP video door entry system and home automation is your best solution,” the post said.
