Luminite Electronics, British manufacturer of wireless and hard wired PIR detectors have developed OCULi – a wireless PIR camera designed to protect vulnerable areas where CCTV cannot be installed due to power and internet limitations.

D-TECT Fire and Security, one of the South of England’s premier security companies with over 20 years’ experience had a particular problem securing a dis-used school in Ealing, West London. Due to the vacant nature of the building there was no power, so CCTV was not an option to deter vandalism.

D-TECT approached Luminite for a solution and initially eight OCULi detectors were deployed on the site to replace another verification system that had failed. Marc Seager, Director of D-TECT Fire and Security commented "Previously with other video verification systems going back to a panel, if one unit goes down the whole system goes with it. However each OCULi has its own SIM so this scenario can be avoided.” Marc also found the remote configure features of OCULi via their web portal to be invaluable. Marc further commented, "The ability to arm and dis-arm remotely as well as adjusting various settings means that we have saved time and money on site visits and the fact they integrate with IMMIX means we are alerted to events quickly.”

90% of D-TECT’s clients are based in London and the South East and Marc sees potential for OCULi units to be used for a number of applications, not only in securing vacant properties but also utilising the video verification units on their portable towers. The addition of a Voice Challenge feature will also add to the versatility of the OCULi unit for D-TECT’s sites.

Laura Grainger, Sales and Marketing Manager at Luminite commented, "We are delighted to be partnering with D-TECT Fire and Security on their range of applications for OCULi. We supplied OCULi to D-Tect via our distributor Videcon who have are a leading trade only distributor of security products providing protection solutions across the UK. Customers such as D-TECT have the foresight to identify new uses for OCULi and we look forward to a long and fruitful relationship.”
