At a time when the security industry is facing new challenges from multiple fronts – from the physical to the cyber; from the simple to the increasing complexities of today’s security threats, the newest edition of IFSEC International promises a show that has “transformed” itself into a highly integrated security summit.
Taking place on June 19 to 21 of this year, the 2018 IFSEC show will welcome back successful highlights from the previous editions as well as introduce new events designed to provide answers to address ever-evolving questions in the industry.
Revamped seminar and conference programs
One notable new direction of the event lies in its renewed intention to provide security professionals with practical and useful know-how and information. The 2018 edition will launch a new Keynote Arena, which will serve as a launching pad for the revamped seminar and conference program. A quick glance at the show website revealed a speaker list that included security strategists from a wide variety of backgrounds – government, academia and the security industry – to talk on topics about “Securing the Open Society of 2030.”
Through “case study” style seminars, best practice panel debates and Q&A sessions, security professionals will have an opportunity to question experts, learn from the presented scenarios, and gain an idea of what lies in the future for them in security.
Held in conjunction with these are the Show Me How sessions and Speaker’s Corner. To answer the growing need for integrated security, “Show Me How” technicians throughout the venue will be ready to provide unbiased explanations on products and solutions – from installation, maintenance to hands-on demonstrations, while the Speaker’s Corner will see featured solution providers demonstrating their latest security devices and fielding questions from the attendees.
Converged security
As the fields and applications of security and information continue to converge, IFSEC 2018 will be working with Vidsys to highlight this trend at The Converged Security Center. The area will feature simulations and case studies aimed at driving home the added value and return on investment (ROI) that converged security and information management (CSIM) can offer security professionals. The learning and demonstration area will also play host to a panel of guest speakers who will speak on the topic.
Borders and infrastructure expo
Dubbed as a “show within a show,” this crowd favorite returns to IFSEC 2018. Multiple industry reports have pointed to increased budget allocation by governments to implement physical security systems and solutions to enhance overall national security. The Borders and Infrastructure Expo seeks to address this growing demand by featuring products, solutions and seminars covering the various security elements for this major vertical.
Nestled within the expo is the largely popular “Drone Zone,” which will feature live demonstrations from both exhibitors of drone and anti-drone technology. Visitors will have the opportunity to talk to drone suppliers as well as drone legislation experts on-site to gain a better idea of the potential benefits and applications of drones for security management, such as in video surveillance and border control.
Another highlight at the expo is the larger and more prominent Attack Zone where physical security products will be tested in real-scenario attack situations. Technicians from the Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) will demonstrate the testing process that LPCB-approved perimeter fencing, security doors, shutters and covers need to go through. Non-approved products will need to prove their mettle against LPCB approved alternatives (with a minimum requirement of LPS 1175 SR-3 levels of compliance).
Networking opportunities abound
These are only some among the many highlights at IFSEC 2018. Along with these opportunities for learning, one cannot discount the many opportunities for networking at the event. With over 27,000 security professionals attending the show, plus professionals and manufacturers across multiple verticals, the newest edition of IFSEC will no doubt serve as a wonderful place for industry players to catch up, make new contacts, build on existing relations and open up new business opportunities for the years ahead.
