Lord’s Cricket Ground plays it safe with Vanderbilt

Vanderbilt proximity readers, door controllers and software ensure things go smoothly at Lord’s Cricket Ground, the world-famous cricket ground in London.

Often described as the ‘home’ of cricket, Lord’s Cricket Ground hosts test cricket matches, one-day internationals and county cricket games and also served as the location for the Olympic archery at the London 2012 Games. The home of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), the guardian of the laws of cricket, the ground hosts the oldest sporting museum in the world, as well as a media centre of striking design - winner of the RIBA Stirling Prize for architecture.

Prior to Vanderbilt’s solution, the ground relied on multiple access control systems which meant issuing multiple cards and fobs to employees - who had to remember which device worked with which door reader. The complexity of this multi-vendor installation created confusion and made audit trails impossible.

To rationalize the situation, ICTS UK installed Vanderbilt’s ACTpro MIFARE 1040 proximity readers on external and internal doors at the venue. As would be expected with a venue dating back to 1814, the site includes several Grade-II listed buildings, and this placed additional requirements on the installation. Yet the compact dimensions of the MIFARE 1040 readers ensured minimal visual impact in the older parts of the ground.

The readers are used in conjunction with ACTpro two-door controllers, while integration with existing structured cabling also minimizes the visual impact of wiring in famous areas such as ‘The Long Room.’

In addition to Lord’s Cricket Ground, Vanderbilt also secures premium sporting venues such as Burnley Football Club in the English Championship and the prestigious Croke Park Stadium in Dublin.
