Egyptian university protected thanks to SCATI surveillance system

Egyptian university protected thanks to SCATI surveillance system
The project aims to cover the security of the university campus, buildings and perimeter and minimize the cost of security personnel, as well as to prevent theft and vandalism.
SCATI, a company that specialises in intelligent security solutions, offers a complete IP surveillance solution to guarantee the security of the installations and users in one of Egypt's most prestigious universities. This project takes its place among other SCATI benchmark projects in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East & Africa), whereby it consolidates its presence in the region while confirming its leadership in the IP surveillance sector.

The main campus of the university is located in Qena, a city located 600 km from Cairo. Founded in 1995, this Egyptian university comprises 18 faculties and 1 institute. The objective of its Security Department is to guarantee the security of its installations and the people that use them, as well as to reduce the costs associated with security personnel. To do so, the university will embark on this ambitious project in the middle of 2016, which entails establishing demanding technical and functional requirements.

SCATI was chosen as the company with the most adequate solution for the needs of the Security Department and launched a project that will be executed in various stages throughout the current year.

The IP surveillance system that protects the campus perimeter and buildings consists of 349 IP cameras that offer high video resolution, so any event that occurs in the installations can be clarified. Specifically, three types of cameras were selected:

A highly versatile bullet camera with a resolution of up to 2 megapixels. This camera is ideal for installation outdoors; not only is it equipped with WDR functionalities, but it operates perfectly in low lighting conditions, thanks to its IR filters that provide night-time vision up to 30 metres.

These bullet cameras are complemented by the installation of mini domo IP cameras with a resolution of 1.3 Mpx. Their compact design and vandal-proof housing make these cameras ideal for environments where discretion is an indispensable requirement.

In addition, the university decided to install PTZ IP Domo cameras with a resolution of 2 Mpx and a 20x optical zoom capable of monitoring large areas.

The entire range of SCATI EYE cameras is equipped with embedded Intelligent Video Analytics functionalities, which provides the possibility of a proactive surveillance system that alerts Security Operators automatically when certain events are detected.

Management of the video from these 349 cameras requires only 8 SCATI VISION X800 video recording platforms. The X800 equipment are high range, versatile video recorders with a powerful processor that can manage up to 64 cameras with megapixel resolution and provide a storage capacity of up to 48 TB.

With SCATI VISION preconfigured software, the X800 platforms offer a wide range of possibilities to obtain maximum performance of the surveillance system.

To enable professional and intelligent video monitoring, the university will manage the IP surveillance system through a fibre optic communications network, providing it with a flexible and scalable architecture solution. The entire IP surveillance system is monitored from a Main Control Centre with three Security Operator posts and a video wall with large format monitors.

In addition, each of the protected infrastructures has its own Secondary Control Centre, which monitors its cameras from the corresponding Security Operator post. The result is redundant supervision of the IP surveillance system, thereby guaranteeing the protection of people and assets 24 hours a day.

The various Control Centres are equipped with powerful SCATI Suite management tools:

SCATI WATCHER, a powerful Client application for remote management of the surveillance system, designed to provide a Security Operator post with the most advanced functionalities.

SCATI WALL, which enables each operator to monitor up to 64 cameras simultaneously and perform operations such as digital zoom on PTZ cameras (facilitating personal identification), and/or manage video associated with events and alarms. Generation of scenarios and image sequences makes the system intuitive and easy to use.

Thanks to the SCATI solution, one of the most prestigious universities in Egypt now has a complete, state-of-the-art surveillance system, with the most advanced technologies and functionalities in the IP surveillance sector. It is not only efficient, but scalable for future needs, thereby guaranteeing security, control of the perimeter, preventing theft and vandalism, and minimising the cost of security guards.
