A good access control project keeps premises safe and secure and allows flexibility and ease of management for the end user. Typically it begins with a well-written product specification that takes into consideration the user’s various needs and demands.
That’s according to Spanish security solutions provider
Fermax in a recent blog post.
According to Fermax, when it comes to writing the perfect product specification it will be worthwhile to ensure that a project meets the user’s quality expectations. “The first step is to understand the security needs and the system’s capacity, and this entails a study on how many devices and accessories are necessary to controlling the accesses required,” the company said. “In this step, the most useful is to write a functional description of the system’s requirements, as well as the location and purpose of the system and devices.”
In Fermax’s words, there are certain points to be considered when a professional writes a product specification for access control projects. These include:
- The number of users that enter into the facilities.
- The number of doors (or accesses) to control, from the point of view of the access and the general management.
- The type of identifier or device to use by the users: fingerprint, card, code or a combination of these systems.
- The type of doors to which the system is directed and the most suitable type of enclosure depending on the door.
- If it is required to register the different events, as for example, the date and time of those people who enters in a building.
- If the management is going to be local or a remote connection.
According to the company, taking the aforementioned points into consideration will help avoid mistakes. “The preparation of the product specification is simple, but it is possible to make mistakes. Therefore some consequences can incur for the project. The main concern is that, once the project is completed, the installation may not perform correctly. If this happens, it would lead into additional costs of time and money. In this case, it would be necessary to remove the material and supply the one that meets the requirements of the customer,” the company wrote. “When we write a product specification, we must take into account all the aspects to provide a satisfactory document for the project needs. A good product specification will make the installation more efficient, faster and profitable.”
The company further noted that a major error would be to not consider the type of lock release in the door that will be controlled. “It is essential to take in account the electric locks that will release the identification system. Forgetting to specify the type of door lock may do that the system might not meet our expectations or real needs,” the company said.
