In most applications, fire doors are required to prevent the transfer of flames from the exposed side of a door to the unexposed side in order satisfy UK Building & Fire Regulations. In some specific or high risk areas, it would also be important to inhibit heat transferring from one side of the door to the other.

This can reduce the risk of objects spontaneously combusting on the side of the door that is not exposed to flames. This is particularly useful for applications such as special equipment rooms, storage facilities or to support protected means of escape.”
