VIVOTEK's total surveillance solutions secure the Future of Tungnan university's students
Tungnan University, established in 1970, is an educational institution dedicated to securing bright futures for all of its students. Given the prosperity of industrial development and the demand for industrial technicians at the time of its founding, the school was originally established as a junior college of technology by Mr. Zhi-Ping Jiang. In 2000 the school was promoted to an institute of technology and finally became Tungnan University in 2005.

Tungnan University: Guiding Taiwan’s Future Generations to a Secure Future
Tungnan University, established in 1970, is an educational institution dedicated to securing bright futures for all of its students. Given the prosperity of industrial development and the demand for industrial technicians at the time of its founding, the school was originally established as a junior college of technology by Mr. Zhi-Ping Jiang. In 2000, the school was elevated to being an institute of technology and finally became Tungnan University in 2005. Having undergone great growth, Tungnan University is now composed of four colleges, including thirteen departments and four graduate schools.
The university is located on the hillsides of Shenkeng district, New Taipei City, a location that provides a pleasant, natural environment for its students, faculty and staff, but, adversely, presents its own challenges.

The Challenge: Tungnan University had Outgrown its Old Analog Surveillance System.
Rapid growth sometimes involves growing pains, and Tungnan University, now with 7,300 students, had outgrown its old analog surveillance system. Given that the old system no longer functioned stably and failed to provide clear images, the school decided to find a new solution:, one that could protect Tungnan University students in any weather, at any time.
There were several requirements for the new system. It needed to be smart and tough. Keeping track and ensuring the safety of various staffs and students in an expansive campus is challenge enough for any security system, but it also needs to deal with the fact that the campus is located on a hillside and often exposed to lightning which can cause occasional power outages, as well as damage school facilities and equipment. The large campus would require a system that has the ability to cover a large area through a single intuitive control system.
Tungnan University’s management had decided to establish an independent campus to take charge of the security of the whole school and guarantee the safety of over 7,300 students. They then got in touch with the experts at Apogear distributers, who looked at the list of requirements and set to work planning the perfect system.

The Solution: VIVOTEK – Protecting the Future of Taiwan’s Young Leaders.
Apogear knew that there was only one surveillance solution provider that can meet, and even but exceed, Tungnan University’s expectations - VIVOTEK. Working together, Tungnan University, Apogear, and VIVOTEK set about planning a system that would watch over and protect the university’s students.
Given the wide expanse of Tungnan University’s campus, 135 network cameras were installed across a variety of locations to ensure total coverage and protection. For outdoor spaces and underground parking lots, 66 IP8364-C Bullet network cameras provided all day, all weather surveillance. Equipped with a 2-megapixel sensor enabling a viewing resolution of 1920x1080 at a smooth 30 fps, the IP8364-C is an all-in-one outdoor camera capable of capturing high quality and high resolution video up to 2 megapixels. In order to adapt to the constantly changing outdoor lighting conditions of Tungnan University’s hillside location, the IP8364-C features a removable IR-cut filter as well as IR illuminators effective up to 20 meters for superior image quality around the clock. For protection against the harsh mountain weather, the camera is encased in an IP66-rated housing and weather-proof casing to withstand rain and dust.
For the tops of buildings, corridors, and stairways, Apogear and VIVOTEK recruited the IP8362 bullet network camera for its 2-megapixel resolution, WDR, Focus Assist, and built tough IP67 rated housing. The IP8362 is a best-in-class 1080p outdoor bullet network camera designed for diverse outdoor applications. With full HD resolution and WDR enhancement, users can identify image details in extremely bright as well as dark environments. Now Tungnan University’s changeable weather would no longer challenge the University’s surveillance system – no matter how bright, or how dim it is, students could feel safe anywhere on campus.

An additional 20 IP8332-C bullet network cameras provided all-day protection of corridors and stairs with their built in IR illuminators effective up to 15 meters, and removable IR cut filter for day and night function. Finally, rounding out this great class of VIVOTEK cameras, 6 FD8134 fixed dome network cameras provided 350- degree pan range and 70- degree range coverage of elevators. The FD8134 supports the industry-standard H.264 compression technology, drastically reducing file sizes and conserving valuable network bandwidth, resulting in savings on storage and allowing more money to be spent on the education of Tungnan’s talented students.

A Huge Area, A Fleet of Cameras, But All Managed Under One System – VAST.
Finally, tying the entire system together are 9 ND8401 network video recorders. Connected United by VAST, VIVOTEK’s state- of- the- art video management software, these network video recorders are 16-channel-CH network video recorders designed for sophisticated recording applications. Each unit is equipped with an Intel dual-core atom processor with maximum recording throughput at a robust 96 Mbps. RAID 0/1/5/10 is supported with four HDDs, with an external eSATA port for additional expansion. VAST fully integrated all 9 network recorders and 135 IP network cameras at Tungan University
The security staff are also able to use free and intuitive functions to watch over the students via a video wall solution, VAST Matrix, which allows for the live viewing of hundreds of cameras. Now, as it has been doing since 1970, Tungnan University can concentrate on providing its young students with the brightest possible future, secure in the knowledge that VIVOTEK is ensuring the safest possible educational environment.
