Assa provides access security for a whole neighborhood

The Sodra Hamnen housing cooperative in Lulea, northern Sweden, looked for a simple and secure lock system. An entrance intercom that connects to cell phones was a basic requirement, coupled with an access system for main doors and doors to common areas. “It should also be future-proof,” says deputy chairperson Christer Ejderberg. The clear choice was Assa control systems.

Sodra Hamnen is the most attractive residential area in Lulea, and also one of the biggest housing cooperatives in the northern Swedish city. About 700 people occupy more than 300 apartments. Three and four-room apartments predominate and a number of spectacular four and five-room two-story apartments with sea views help make the neighborhood a popular one.

Yet more than 20 years after the apartments were built, it was time to update the locks on the apartment doors. It was also becoming increasingly difficult to repair the code system for the main doors to the apartment blocks.

“The system should also be future-proof, for example if we want to upgrade with computerized scheduling for the sauna or laundry room, or integrate all apartment doors.”

Now the 700 residents use their tags to open the main doors book time in one of the two saunas and to unlock the garage, laundry room, storage area, bicycle room and garbage room. The intercoms work with all telecom operators, connecting to landlines or cell phones.

Ejderberg also appreciates the ability to manage apartment owners' access to the various common areas. Each apartment is provided a number of tags (by partner HSB) with the appropriate access rights. If someone moves or a tag is lost, it is simply revoked.
