Suncoast Communities Blood Bank (SCBB) in Florida, U.S, has launched Bio-key International’s cloud-based fingerprint donor search and identification solution to deliver the security and convenience of automated positive donor identification at all of their donor centers. Suncoast Communities Blood Bank (SCBB) in Florida, U.S, has launched Bio-key International's cloud-based fingerprint donor search and identification solution to deliver the security and convenience of automated positive donor identification at all of their donor centers. SCBB was issued a grant from the Venice Endowment Fund through the Gulf Coast Community Foundation, which supported the purchase of the new fingerprint donor identification system.

“The addition of Bio-key's cloud-based fingerprint donor search and identification solution will allow us to operate even more safely, securely and efficiently,” said Scott Bush, CEO of SCBB. “As a certified green business, this system also allows SCBB to continue doing its part to protect and preserve our environment through the reduced use of paper products.”

The new donor identification system will enable SCBB to search for and positively identify blood donors more efficiently, while detecting and preventing duplicate donor records, protecting donor privacy and eliminating errors associated with manual registration. Through its support of dozens of hospitals and clinics, SCBB serves thousands of patients each year, providing transfusion medical services, and this technology will ensure a safer blood supply.

“By utilizing Bio-key to automate donor enrollment and check in, Suncoast will detect duplicate donor records before they are created, while reducing donor check-in to a two-second process at the registration desk,” said Jim Sullivan, Bio-key VP of Strategy and Business Development. “The reaction of donors and staff has been incredibly positive, as increased donor convenience benefit the entire organization.”

Bio-key technology is utilized by six blood centers and the company has issued over three million donor ID licenses. “This is another example of our finger biometric technology becoming the preferred authentication and identification option for patient, donor and consumer access,” said Mike DePasquale, CEO, Bio-key. “We can say with confidence that the Bio-key family of blood centers, transfusion facilities and hospitals will continue to grow, as the security and convenience provided by our biometrics in eliminating cards and passwords enhances the identification experience for donors and staff.”
