NBA all-star weekend in Houston goes high-tech
Houston authorities announced that they used PSIM software from VidSys to manage the security and safety operations associated with the city’s NBA All-Star Weekend events in mid February. The city’s public safety personnel were able to fuse, view and share with public and private agencies data used to protect visitors and participants throughout the events and celebrations. The deployment integrated surveillance cameras and other security devices throughout the downtown area, along with video feeds from police helicopters, to provide the city with a complete view around the Toyota Center, Discovery Green and George R. Brown Convention Center.

Houston authorities announced that they used PSIM software from VidSys to manage the security and safety operations associated with the city's NBA All-Star Weekend events in mid February. The city's public safety personnel were able to fuse, view and share with public and private agencies data used to protect visitors and participants throughout the events and celebrations. The deployment integrated surveillance cameras and other security devices throughout the downtown area, along with video feeds from police helicopters, to provide the city with a complete view around the Toyota Center, Discovery Green and George R. Brown Convention Center.

The security personnel had access to the common operating picture from within four city command centers, including police and fire mobile command centers strategically positioned around the city to provide immediate on-site assistance. The Houston Downtown Management District also utilized the VidSys software as part of its partnership with the city police department to share public safety cameras within its jurisdiction for monitoring tourist activity and to help contain security and safety situations. The VidSys software enabled various city organizations, including the 911 dispatch, police department, fire department, office of emergency management and transit authority, to share information and collaborate in real time.

The solution was dubbed by the Mayor's Office of Public Safety and Homeland Security to be an integral part of Houston's ongoing public safety commitment to providing city partners with greater visibility to shared security assets to enhance the overall safety of residents, visitors and first responders. “The City of Houston is a national innovator in using breakthrough technologies and techniques to secure high-profile public events by providing interoperability among law enforcement officers, emergency management officials, community leaders and the private sector,” said Michael Jackson, CEO of VidSys.
