Chilean university integrates fire safety and city surveillance

The Central University of Chile was founded in 1982 and is one of the three oldest private universities in Chile. Twenty–seven courses are currently taught across its eight faculties, while its first-rate infrastructure and equipment are constantly being updated. The university has three campuses located in the center and foothills of Santiago, as well as a modern multi-story sports center and regional offices in Antofagasta and La Serena.

The University has over eight thousand undergraduate and postgraduate students, and around 10,000 alumni.

The Central University commissioned GRED Reingenieria to install the best and most reliable fire detection system on the market in its facilities in Chile. The Bosch security systems products were selected for the job because they seem to be ideal to meet the primary objectives.

For its new facilities, it was decided that a CCTV and early fire detection system would be installed in order to protect the lives of associates, visitors and others who use the building and the valuable archive and library materials stored there.

Prior to the installation, the project documents and plans were drawn up, and then the most appropriate solution was sought. This solution had to meet both technical and economic customer requirements, and the use of Bosch products achieved the perfect balance, thanks to the diversity of the products and the modularity of the systems.

With regard to the fire detection system, the addressable fire panel with more than 390 optical detectors and an emergency sound system were installed. The university was also equipped with a CCTV system that is controlled by controlled by three recorders and comprises 35 Bosch Dinion cameras.

Work began in March 2009 and was completed in August 2009. Bosch products were chosen not only because of their modular design, which allows the system to grow in line with the client's needs and requirements, but also as a result of the reliability and reputation of the brand.

The system provides easier access for associates and users as well as enabling the movement of goods and people within the building to be monitored. This, in turn, allows improved comfort and safety for students.

The Central University of Chile was protected against potential hazards from the moment the Bosch system was installed, given that the best defense against the assumed risk in a fire is early detection and an immediate reaction.
