Chinese university campus secured by IP surveillance
The Chenggong campus of Yunnan Normal University hoped to build an all-digital security surveillance system in all buildings and the entire campus. By adopting a combination of human and technological security means, it sought to build an advanced platform that was “preventive in nature and allowed for post-incident collection of evidence”, hence eliminating dead ends at surveillance positions and alarm areas. The built system had to be "safe, advanced, reliable, practical and convenient" with due consideration given to the aspects of effectiveness, openness and expansibility, realizing the management of sub-systems, maximizing the sharing of information and facilitating future system expansion, capacity increase and improvement.

Mission
The Chenggong campus of Yunnan Normal University hoped to build an all-digital security surveillance system in all buildings and the entire campus. The built system had to be "safe, advanced, reliable, practical and convenient" with due consideration given to the aspects of effectiveness, openness and expansibility, realizing the management of sub-systems, maximizing the sharing of information and facilitating future system expansion, capacity increase and improvement.

Solution
A special video network with a 10GB backbone switch network core wass built using the campus' road network. The front terminal uses Axis network cameras while the back terminal uses Shanghai Ziya's EVIP professional video management platform system.

The platform software is applicable to large networking projects with multiple functions such as screen display, control, video recording and forwarding. Specific intelligent video analytic functions were developed based on the project requirements in order to build an all-digital video surveillance system that will function smoothly going forward.

Result
The all-digital security surveillance system of the entire Chenggong campus of Yunnan Normal University now covers 57 buildings. With continual campus building efforts and various functional buildings put into use, more surveillance points will have to be added, and the user's need for constant upgrading and expansion of the system is met by the advantage of instant connection and instant usage of Axis products. The system can also support increased surveillance points and new applications with its robust back-end software management platform.

Systems in place
Trespassing alarm system: An intelligent system that uses a special sensor technology and video surveillance analytic technology to detect and indicate any illegal entry or attempted illegal entry into the protected areas, process the alarm information and issue alarm information. Video security surveillance system: Using the all-digital video surveillance system architecture, Axis P1347, P1343, P5522, P5512, P5534-E and Q6034-E network cameras are deployed for the front terminal and video images are sent to the campus surveillance center via the special video network, allowing the staff to carry out round-the-clock surveillance via the large surveillance screens or subcontrol terminals.

Entry and exit control system: Subjects entering or leaving the premises are identified and the activation and closure of entry and exit execution units are controlled using the intelligent video analytic function, model recognition technology and behavioral recognition technology of the system. Prompt preventive measures are also taken simultaneously.

No blind spots
The new system, which centers on the comprehensive management platform of the campus security surveillance system, prevents trespassing at the perimeter, triggers an alarm when trespassing is detected, and implements entry-exit control. Personnel are deployed at critical areas to support the campus security information system, and 24-hour surveillance is employed at all surveillance locations. The digital video recording surveillance unit automatically stores the images of all activities captured by the cameras, and the images are kept for 30 days. There are no blind spots at the public surveillance areas and seamless coverage is achieved at key areas including the campus entrance, perimeter, road intersections, building lobby, ground level car parks and underground car parks. This ensures heightened security at critical locations and achieves the functions of intelligent alarm, intelligent tracking and intelligent recognition, elevating the effectiveness of security management of the campus and creating a safer learning and living environment for teachers and students.

The entire system is highly expandable. Besides preserving various interfaces to the electronic patrol system, car park management system and remote proctoring system, the intelligent digital platform can also be expanded to include video conferencing, multimedia pedagogical systems and other such connections. In addition, all the surveillance points are built in sync with the overall construction plan of the campus, achieving full campus coverage while ensuring that they are concealed and aesthetically pleasant as much as possible without affecting the overall campus environment.
