Hotels worldwide are faced with a challenge: on one side they need to find a balance between guest comfort, safety and security, energy efficiency and cost management, and on the other side they have to integrate different technology components and bring them into the dialogue. The Radisson Sonya hotel in St Petersburg with its unique design inspired by Dostoyevsky's novel “Crime and Punishment” is no exception. A comprehensive and reliable hotel solution, covering integrated building management, fire safety and security systems supplied by Siemens, was successfully carried out. It ensures that technology acts as the perfect aid to anticipating guest wishes and provides benefits in terms of guest comfort and security.
Inspiration for the four-star hotel, located near the River Neva in the center of the historic Russian city St. Petersburg, comes from Fyodor Dostoyevsky's famous novel. With a number of restaurants and conference halls, the hotel features 173 beautifully decorated rooms, each adorned by a unique quotation from “Crime and Punishment” in both Russian and English – contributing towards the creation of a unique guest experience.
Bringing technologies into a dialogue
From a building technologies point of view, the prime focus of this project was to have technologies which offer a true system dialogue to satisfy the guest comfort, safety and security, energy efficiency and cost management, while at the same time ensuring that the unique design is not disrupted. Siemens supplied a complete hotel management system for ultimate climate comfort, as well as fire detection, extinguishing and access control systems for the security of guests, staff and property. Every guest room in the hotel has climate control, enabling the guest to set a chosen temperature. The system will then optimize the heating, ventilating and air-conditioning to achieve that temperature, enabling the highest level of energy efficiency and cost-savings – contributing towards the international ecological ”Green Key" certificate which this St. Petersburg hotel has been awarded.
Finding the right balance through smart protection
The integrated safety and security system is another example of the advanced technologies being deployed in the hotel. Guests entrust many things during their stay in a hotel – their health and safety as well as cash and other valuables. There is also the safety of the staff and the hotel structure itself to consider, in addition to a need to eliminate the considerable disruption and inconvenience caused by unwanted alarms.
The Radisson Sonya hotel is equipped with a modern fire alarm and extinguishing system which provides early and reliable fire detection. The hotel complex is protected by an integrated video surveillance system and access control system. This ensures unobtrusive control and management of a range of potential threats, from cameras monitoring unauthorized access attempts to escalation processes in the event of an incident. The safety system has been implemented in compliance with the local regulations, as well as with the requirements of the hotel risk management team.

The close relationship and coordination between both companies who deliver proven expertise resulted in a successful supply, installation and commissioning of this project.
