Genetec announced the availability of its new unified web client for Security Center. The unified web client is part of the Security Center Mobile 3.0 feature and allows customers to connect back to their platform to view video, control PTZ cameras, configure aspects of their access control and license plate recognition (LPR) systems, and run reports from the most web browsers.

Several key characteristics differentiate Genetec's unified web client. First, it is truly a thin client so customers have nothing to download before they connect to the Genetec unified security platform, Security Center. Instead, users simply require a link to the Security Center mobile server hosting the web pages. This allows the new web client to be a one-of-a-kind platform-independent interface; users can access the web client from browsers running within Microsoft Windows, Apple iOS, Linux, RIM BlackBerry, and Android operating environments. Some of the more popular browsers that support the web client include Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Apple Safari, and Opera. The end result is a universal web-based client.

The unified web client's advantages include a simplified deployment process as organizations install the mobile server and provide links to their users; easy accessibility via the most popular web browsers; and an overall reduction in deployment and maintenance costs as updates are made solely at the mobile server level. Furthermore, the web client is a natural fit in multi-tenant installations and centrally managed access control or video systems; users are given access to their portion of the security system via a web client that requires no installation.
