Oberthur Technologies, a global leader in the delivery of high security solutions announces that the Latvian Interior Ministry selected Oberthur Technologies to provide the electronic secure cards, pre-personalization and related software middleware, for both Latvian residence permits and citizen cards.

The Interior Ministry of the Latvia Republic will launch their new electronic identity documents on 2nd of January 2012: the electronic EU residence permits for non-EU citizens residing in Latvia and the electronic ID cards for citizens. These ID cards are based on the latest technologies and standards, through hybrid interface technology which permits to implement two chips, one with IAS-ECC application and the second for ICAO travel application, based on BAC, EAC and SAC protocol. The middleware software provided with the cards is an open source development compliant with ISO 24727 specification.

The cards supplied by Oberthur Technologies will be produced in polycarbonate raw material, a long life plastic composite from our Cardamant laser card range, which provides high security features and long life cycle.

“With this project, Oberthur Technologies will increase security by providing its latest technologies to Latvian citizens. This new reference confirms Oberthur Technologies' expertise in the citizen market.” commented Stephane Guilbault, MD of Oberthur Technologies' Identity Division.
