Enterasys Networks recently signed an agreement to become an authorized major supplier of secure wired and wireless network infrastructure for the Security Solutions business of Siemens Industry, Inc. With this agreement, Enterasys, as a Siemens Enterprise Communications company, continues to expand its relationships within the Siemens family of companies.

"Enterasys is offering a whole new level of network and IT management integration to the physical security infrastructure," said Perry Levine, Senior Director of Business Development for Security Products at Siemens. "Enterasys demonstrates unique capabilities with their identity-aware intelligent switch technology that automates the secure provisioning of IP surveillance cameras and access control devices at the network edge, while also providing device location services and application visibility at the head-end with their NMS."

As a part of this agreement, Enterasys is committed to working closely with Siemens' other major suppliers to simplify the integration of physical security devices on the IP network with strong support of open standards. The move to add Enterasys to Siemens' portfolio of security solutions demonstrates the growing need for intelligent, enterprise-class secure switching/routing infrastructure to support the growing demands of IP video surveillance and access control systems. One of the most common challenges of today's surveillance and video storage environments, Levine notes, is the security and reliability of the IP network. "With Enterasys, we can now offer our customers a comprehensive IP network solution from edge to head-end."

"We are excited that Siemens has chosen Enterasys as their supplier of secure network solutions," said Chris Crowell, President and CEO of Enterasys Networks. "At Enterasys, we are committed to solving the challenges introduced by rapid IP adoption within the physical security market. Our rich history in policy-enabled networking and network management positions us well to handle the growing IT complexity caused by an explosion of physical security devices being placed on the IP network. Our alliance with Siemens demonstrates our commitment to address the emerging critical infrastructure requirements of tomorrow's IP converged physical security environment."
