Fujitsu and MCS Software Fight Identity Theft Problems in Education Marketplace

Fujitsu Frontech North America, a leading provider of IT-based business solutions, including advanced technology products, biometric security, and digital media solutions, and MCS Software, a leading provider of completely functional and user-friendly software for the school food service environment, have announced their strategic partnership featuring the Fujitsu PalmSecure palm vein authentication solution. The PalmSecure technology has been integrated into the existing MCS Software’s Point-of-Sale (POS) system to provide a more reliable, hygienic, accurate, and secure authentication solution that is also easier to use and maintain.

The PalmSecure technology has been integrated into the existing MCS Software's Point-of-Sale (POS) system to provide a more reliable, hygienic, accurate, and secure authentication solution that is also easier to use and maintain.

The fully integrated solution combines PalmSecure biometric technology and the POS system to provide enhanced security without student PINs or fingerprint scanners and replaces them with the fast and easy to use PalmSecure palm vein authentication solution. MCS integrated PalmSecure into their POS system with the development-friendly Fujitsu PalmSecure Software Development Kit (SDK), reducing the full integration and deployment cycle to less than a month. The ability to rapidly scope, develop and deploy was an important factor in choosing the Fujitsu PalmSecure biometric technology.

“From the beginning, we've felt confident in developing a solution with Fujitsu's PalmSecure technology that meets the needs of the education market,” said Jay Meral, Chief Financial Officer, MCS. “The diversity of benefits we've enjoyed in working with Fujitsu's PalmSecure biometric technology has made all aspects of our solution easier to achieve, especially on the technical side of integrating with our Newton Point-of-Sale system. We think the education market will embrace the solution as it is cost-effective and very easy to use.”

Key to MCS's education offering is Time Keeper, which is a complete and comprehensive software solution for managing individuals' time and attendance, designed specifically for School Nutrition Services. Time Keeper is a secure, cost-effective, and user friendly way to manage employee labor hours. Time Keeper provides a standardized interface in order to integrate with most payroll systems. Customers can use PalmSecure technology for secure employee identification; this is the key to preventing employees from clocking each other's time in and out (i.e. buddy punching).

The Fujitsu PalmSecure sensor uses a near-infrared light to capture a student's palm vein pattern, generating a unique biometric template that is matched against the palm vein patterns of pre-registered users. Unlike other readers, a PalmSecure device does not come into contact with the skin, making it extremely hygienic, non-intrusive and unrestricted by external factors such as skin types and conditions.

“Our advanced PalmSecure biometric technology already has shown true versatility in successes for organizations in industries including healthcare, banking, IT and education,” said Christer Bergman, VP Biometric Solution Group, Fujitsu Frontech North America. “MCS Software's integration of the PalmSecure solution with their Point-of-Sale system illustrates that diversity. With a high level of accuracy, easy integration into existing systems and the reliability needed to keep the education market humming along, we are pleased that PalmSecure biometric palm vein scanning can be proven in yet another application area, School Food & Nutrition Services.”
