UK Lock Supplier Provides Safe Learning Environment for Mexican University

Though electronic locks which are software controlled are touted as the best and secure, they have recently been switched off at the University of New Mexico.

The university upgraded its security system for swipe card control on all of its dorm rooms, but due to numerous software problems the university had to switch back to traditional lock and key.

The idea behind the upgrade was to save money as every time a student loses his or her keys, a locksmith is needed to replace the lock. The university valued at US$200,000 spending on the swipe card system has not yet yielded the results they were after and the people responsible for buying the electronic system no longer work at the University of New Mexico.

“It's taken some time but I think we've learned a lot and we have the right people at the table where I think it's going to be very successful,” said Walt Miller, Associate VP of Student Life.
