Datacard Boosts Productivity and Cuts Costs for High-Volume Smart Card Issuer

Datacard announced that Giesecke and Devrient (G&D), one of the smart-card innovators, has deployed a new card delivery solution that is driving productivity gains and cost savings in a G&D service bureau located in the U.K. The card delivery solution, which features an enhanced envelope insertion system, is being used to issue millions of smart cards each month for banks and credit-card organizations all around the world.

Ashley Benfield, Operations Director for the G&D service bureau, spotted an opportunity in 2009. The global recession led to lower card volumes for service bureaus worldwide. Benfield knew higher volumes were on the horizon. So, when Datacard asked if his facility could be a beta site for an enhanced envelope insertion solution.

"Datacard experts worked side-by-side with our staff and integrated the envelope insertion system with our existing card issuance systems and our card delivery systems," Benfield said. "Since then, our volumes have increased and productivity has gone up even faster than I had hoped."

"The most rewarding is that we are improving G&D's responsiveness and helping them win business in a competitive market," said Gerry Mimick, Senior PM for Datacard Group. "Turnaround time is critical for G&D's customers. The gains we have helped them achieve both in terms of greater system availability and increased production capacity are contributing to revenue generation and customer satisfaction."
