LaserCard, a provider of secure ID solutions, has engaged digital identity consultant Amr Shawki, Founder and Chairman of Egytec Engineering, to support LaserCard's business development activities in the Middle East. The partnership will focus on government credential programs including national citizen and foreign resident IDs, government employee IDs, health IDs, student IDs, e-passports and vehicle registration and driver licenses.

Shawki is an organizer of specialized events in the Middle East and Africa dedicated to identity management, biometrics, RFID and information security. Shawki also serves as the founder and chairman of the Egyptian Association for Smart Cards Industry and Applications (EASCIA), the first association for smart cards in the region. In addition, he is the founding chairman of the Arab Electrical Power and Energy Association (AEPEA).

“We are very pleased to add Shawki to our worldwide network of partners working to address the complexities of large-scale ID programs,” said Uwe Ludwig, VP of Sales LaserCard, EMEA. “Shawki's knowledge of the secure identification market in the Middle East, including his work as a consultant for governmental and nongovernmental bodies in the areas of digital identity and information security, will be of great benefit with new customers and countries in the region.”

LaserCard supplies cards for large-scale government ID programs, including the Saudi Arabia national ID program, the new US Green Card program, multiple programs in Italy, the Angola national ID card program, the international professional driver license program in Hungary and vehicle registration programs for three state authorities in India.

“LaserCard has an understanding of the intricacies and practicalities of ID programs and brings technology methods to every program they undertake,” Shawki said. “I believe that government officials throughout the Middle East will be particularly interested in the company's five-year record of success in Saudi Arabia. I see LaserCard's customized approach and expertise in the design, manufacturing and implementation of secure ID programs as a very good fit for partners and customers in the Middle East who are planning to undertake new or upgraded programs.”
