Under terms of the contract, the Federal Probation and Pretrial Services Office has licensed BIO-key WEB-key platform for use in their fingerprint-enabled identity management kiosks.
As part of this project, the Federal Probation and Pretrial Services' centrally managed database is updated by a Web-enabled application running on each kiosk. This is a perfect fit for WEB-key, which provides the Federal Probation and Pretrial Services system with a centralized personnel authentication process based on BIO-key patented fingerprint identification. Once enrolled, WEB-key positively identifies the offender/defendant anywhere within the system. Additionally, the biometric will be used to positively identify a person under federal supervision when arriving at the probation or pretrial services office location for scheduled meetings.
The United States Federal Court system includes the Supreme Court, the Courts of Appeal, District Courts and Bankruptcy Courts. In 2008, more than 349,000 filings were made in the US District Courts alone. The addition of BIO-key's accurate, scalable technology has enabled the Federal Probation and Pretrial Services system to streamline the process of capturing information, minimizing the time needed to verify identities. This is the first use of the technology in the Federal Probation and Pretrial Services system for this type of identification.
