Intellicheck Mobilisa announced it was awarded a contract with the Port of New York/New Jersey to supply mobile Transportation Worker Identity Credential (TWIC) readers and access control systems to support the Department of Homeland Security TWIC Pilot project.

The Transportation Worker Identity Credential, or TWIC, program is a Transportation Security Administration and US Coast Guard initiative that provides tamper-resistant biometric identification cards to port facility workers. TWIC cards have become a mandatory requirement for access to all US ports as of April 15, 2009. The Intellicheck Mobilisa TWIC reader handheld device is used to validate TWIC credentials; the company believes such a universal reader will ultimately be needed at each of the more than 175 seaports in the United States.
