North Lincolnshire Homes ordered a review of the maintenance of fire alarms, extinguishers, hose reels and dry risers last year. North Lincolnshire Homes took over ownership of just under 10,000 properties from North Lincolnshire Council in 2007. Chubb was appointed on the strength of its reputation in fire safety, according to NLH's Holly McGlone, Value for Money Officer: “We needed a business we could trust with something as important as fire safety for our tenants,” she said.

As well as the alarm servicing contract, Chubb successfully tendered for the contracts for Fire Risk Assessments and the servicing of the emergency lighting and fire extinguishers. Holly said that the work carried out by Chubb has been to an excellent standard. “We are very happy with Chubb to date and look forward to a long working relationship,” she added.
More than 13,500 people are killed or injured by fire each year and a survey by the Fire Industry Association showed that nearly 80 percent of the 400 incidents it investigated in 2007 were successfully put out by a portable fire extinguisher.
Jane Garland, Marketing and Communications Manager at Chubb Fire said that emergency lighting, extinguishers and alarms help to protect people from the dangers of fire. “It is imperative that all homes have a working smoke detector and fire blanket or extinguisher to detect and contain a fire whilst giving them time to escape.”
