Smiths Detection announces its X-ray system has been placed on Transportation Security Administration's (TSA) List of Candidate Air Cargo Screening Technologies. With a total of seven systems on the list, including explosives trace detectors and X-ray systems, Smiths Detection offers airlines, freight forwarders and indirect air carriers approved security screening solutions.

"Our security solutions enable the screening of air cargo from break-bulk small packages to large pallets. We back up our products with the world's largest support and training team, which is vital to keep commerce moving,” said Mark Laustra, VP of Homeland Security for Smiths Detection.

Since 2006, Smiths Detection has worked with its customers to help prepare for the initial TSA air cargo screening mandate which took effect in February 2009.

"Our equipment will help our partners minimize the impact of the mandate and efficiently move cargo thereby maintaining profitability,” added Laustra.

Smiths Detection's X-ray solutions provide superior image quality, enabling air cargo operators to effectively screen for threats in a full range of containers. The company's desktop and handheld trace detection devices quickly screen for microscopic amounts of explosives.
