CBP Penalizes Driver, Revokes FAST Card

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the International Falls port of entry levied a civil penalty against a commercial truck driver for failing to report for inspection.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the International Falls port of entry levied a civil penalty against a commercial truck driver for failing to report for inspection.

The incident occurred on June 10, when a Ford Super Duty truck failed to report to the gamma imaging system for inspection as directed. CBP officers immediately notified the Border Patrol who were able to intercept the vehicle and return the vehicle and its driver to the International Falls port of entry.

The driver of the vehicle said, “He understood that he was directed to go to the gamma imaging system for exam.” He stated “he received a phone call on his way to the scanner and simply forgot to report.”

The subject was penalized US$5,000. The driver of the vehicle was also a member of the trusted travel program and possessed a FAST card. The driver's FAST card was revoked by CBP due to the violation.

The FAST (Free and Secure Trade) program offers dedicated lanes and expedited border clearance for importers, carriers and drivers who have passed rigorous risk assessments that include fingerprinting.

"Individuals that attempt to avoid the inspection process will be dealt with in accordance to CBP laws and regulations,” said Mary Delaquis, Director of Service.
