Apollo Video Technology has been selected by Omaha's Metro Area Transit (MAT) to equip the agency's 170 buses with five-camera video and audio surveillance systems. Apollo Video Technology's RoadRunner system was chosen based on two key components: a two-year retention period for all digital recordings, and meeting specific video performance requirements.
MAT services approximately 80 percent of Omaha and has contracts with surrounding communities. The RoadRunner system will enable transit officials to monitor video both inside and outside paratransit and fixed-route buses and view the speeds and routes of vehicles on an interactive map. The iSM (Interactive Speed and Mapping) interface, a feature of the RoadRunner system, combines graphical route information with vehicle GPS data and live and historical video feeds. Apollo Video will also be providing cellular wireless equipment that will allow MAT to view live video from their bus fleet from various locations throughout Omaha.
Apollo Video Technology was awarded the contract after a competitive RFP and demonstration process in which the RoadRunner system and competitor systems were installed and tested aboard select buses within the MAT bus fleet. Respondents had to demonstrate a two-year retention period of recordings and provide 30 minute video recording sample at designated quality settings and recording speeds.
The contract, worth nearly one million dollars, was awarded through an FTA section 5309 grant. Federal funding will account for 80 percent of the contract, while the additional 20 percent will be paid for by MAT.
The newly enhanced iSM interface features: enhanced network capabilities for scheduled and automatic system health checks, fleet-wide time synchronization, e-mail notifications for events, camera obstruction notices, hard disk drive status reports, as well as the ability to send live video to a central location in the event of an emergency.
