Siemens Medical Solutions (Siemens Med) and BT have signed a worldwide value-added reseller agreement for the provision of identity and access management services to global clients. The new partnership consolidates the existing relationship that the two companies have enjoyed for many years.

With its DirX products, Siemens offers a fully integrated identity and access management product suite. As the sole manufacturer, Siemens is able to combine its DirX products, professional services and technology into a complete solution, which also includes smartcards and physical and logical access.

The system offers flexibility in the area of administration, particularly in the automated creation of user accounts and granting of associated access rights. DirX products offer leading-edge technology in terms of scalability, reliability and availability. DirX identity and access management also allows simple and effective integration with SAP systems, such as SAP Netweaver. These characteristics were decisive factors in BT's decision to collaborate with Siemens.

BT will use Siemens DirX products in client projects, which will thus benefit from BTˇs long-standing practical experience and international expertise in the consultancy, designing and integration of complex identity and access management (IAM) solutions. It will focus in particular on the efficiency of business processes, fulfilment of compliance criteria and advising customers on organisational aspects.

Using project start-up resources such as the ¨Identity Management Healthcheck〃, BT systematically checks how well the company is prepared for IAM, so as to meet the expectations of all participants as realistically and efficiently as possible. The solution realised by BT can then be operated either on the customerˇs site or as a hosted variant at one of BTˇs secure data centres.

The experts from BT use worldwide standardised procedural models, methods and tools, so that BT is especially well-placed to undertake global projects. Customers can also, if they wish, take advantage of other offerings from BTˇs service portfolio.

Ray Stanton, global head of BTˇs business continuity, security and governance practice, said: ¨This ground breaking agreement underlines the ongoing strength and success of our relationship with Siemens, and brings to bear the combined skills and assets of our two organisations for the benefits of our clients in an area that is vital to the success and security of the modern organisation. BT is looking forward to developing a strong, fruitful, and long lasting partnership with Siemens, and ensuring that our customers receive a truly world class identity and access management service.〃

Doris Hermann, VP Security and Identity Management, Siemens AG Medical Solutions, said: ¨We are very excited by the opportunities to provide innovative and cost effective identity and access management services to our clients through this agreement with BT. We look forward to building on the strength of our existing relationships with BT and we are very confident that our global customers will appreciate and value our joint approach.〃

Thanks to this partnership, customers benefit from a unique combination: It gives them access to consulting and managed services, and to a comprehensive, integrated identity and access management suite all from under one roof and backed up by worldwide support.

The partnership will be started in Germany, France, the UK and the US and then gradually expanded.
