Luminite are delighted to announce that, following interest from various children’s care homes, the Alertex speaker is now available in an anti-ligature enclosure.
Alertex is a range of wireless speakers, call points and sounder/beacons designed to issue a clear and unambiguous alert in the event of the lockdown of premises.
With Martyn’s Law now passed in the UK parliament, all public venues with a capacity for 200 or more people will have to demonstrate clear and unambiguous alerts to lockdown, evacuation and invacuation in the event of a terrorist attack. This includes schools, shopping malls, hospitals, museums, leisure centres, hotels, theatres and more, and will affect 280,000 venues by 2027.
Children’s homes will also be affected and as these sites and some schools require anti-ligature measures to be in place, we have been working on a solution so that the Alertex range can be offered as a lockdown solution.
What is anti-ligature?
‘Ligature’ refers to a method of self-harm involving tying a cord, rope or clothing around a neck or other body part. Anti-ligature measures aim to eliminate or reduce points where such a ligature could be attached. As children’s homes and some schools often accommodate children with complex emotional and behavioural needs, any equipment must be deemed safe. This includes amongst other things door handles, window fittings and shower heads.
The Alertex speakers are wireless and can be used for a number of events, not just lockdown. The IP Bridge allows users to select any number of pre-recorded messages to play – up to 15MB in size which equates to around 10 messages lasting 20 seconds each. This can include calming music and safety messages in other languages.
