Bangladesh conglomerate boosts efficiency with IDIS video solution

Bangladesh conglomerate boosts efficiency with IDIS video solution
Meghna Group Industries is one of Bangladesh’s most successful industrial conglomerates.
Powerful surveillance tech needed for centralized monitoring of diverse and expanding industrial operations.

Meghna Group Industries is one of Bangladesh’s most successful industrial conglomerates. Its diverse portfolio includes chemicals, food processing, consumer products, cement production, shipping, and utilities. MGI’s Meghna Sugar Refinery division operates a factory with a 3000 tons-per-day production capacity.

Operating to the highest food safety standards, the factory uses the latest automated production processes to ensure low environmental humidity and consistent product purity.

Now, with further investment planned, MGI wanted to transform its video surveillance capabilities at the sugar refinery to give its 24/7 security operation full visibility without blind spots.

Challenge

Complex expansion and elimination of unaffordable license and maintenance costs.

Priority areas for video coverage included the extensive site perimeters and entrances, stores, loading bays, and production areas. The aim was to ensure production integrity, maintain a full record of events, and prevent intrusion or unauthorized activity.

MGI also had wider ambitions for its new system: to establish a scalable, future-proof platform for centralized monitoring across MGI’s broader operations, with the ability to remotely monitor additional locations from the sugar factory’s upgraded control room.

A priority for the proposed upgrade was to reduce operating and VMS license fee costs and prevent waste by retaining the significant existing video infrastructure, which included hundreds of third-party cameras and a video wall, and integrating them all into the new solution.

Solution

IDIS allows complete system modernization with cost-saving integration.

IDIS partner Red Office Supplies was awarded the contract following a competitive bid, by proposing the enterprise-class IDIS Solution Suite (ISS) VMS as an ideal platform for a secure, phased migration from the older video system to the new, scalable solution without interrupting live monitoring or recording.

The upgrade involved:
  • More than 600 new IDIS cameras, including 193 Full-HD IR bullet cameras and 290 5MP IR bullet cameras. With IR night vision up to 30M and True WDR, they ensure sharp, clear image capture even in challenging lighting conditions. IP67 is rated for harsh environmental conditions, and the cameras also feature two-way audio and PoE for efficient installation.
  • The IDIS 5MP fisheye cameras ensured cost-effective wide-area HD video coverage of critical locations without blind spots.
  • Red Office integrated an additional 300 third-party IP cameras with ISS VMS, enabling enhanced control and monitoring from an existing video wall.
  • To ensure continuous recording, the IDIS Critical Failover service module provides inherent native dual power supply and failover, and the latest, robust IDIS NVRs provide 30 days’ recording with RAID 5 redundancy, assuring MGI of no gaps in footage.
  • IDIS DirectIP allowed efficient plug-and-play installation, while ISS allowed easy integration of third-party technology with full ONVIF compatibility to integrate the existing third-party cameras.

Results and benefits

30% efficiency gain and minimal ongoing costs.

Thanks to the upgraded surveillance solution, Meghna Group’s security operation has become significantly more efficient—the company estimates a productivity gain of at least 30%.

The AI quick search tools are proving particularly useful, allowing footage of incidents to be searched and found much more quickly.

The upgraded solution also assures MGI of low operating costs, with no license renewal fees, prohibitive costs to expand the system and no hidden extras. The system is future-proofed, too, with IDIS’s promise of forward and backward product compatibility and the IDIS federated architecture that will make it easy for MGI to scale up and monitor additional locations from its control room. Further system expansion is already being planned.

Maniruzzaman Chowdry, Deputy General Manager IT, MGI Group said, "Our IDIS video solution deployed by Red Office Supplies is more affordable, more powerful, and easier to expand than any of the alternatives we looked at. It provides a dependable platform that has strengthened our security and safety measures to support MGI’s ambitious growth plans."
