One of largest property developments anywhere in the world in recent years, the £9 billion regeneration of the iconic Battersea Power Station in London will be protected by cutting edge MxPro 5 fire panels and bespoke AdSpecials panels from Advanced.
The Battersea Power Station Development Company (BPSDC) has selected UK-based Advanced to provide fire panels for the flagship project that will see 4,329 homes built around the famous Sir Giles Gilbert Scott-designed Power Station, which was decommissioned in 1983. Upon completion in 2028, the Power Station itself will house shops, restaurants, offices apartments, and events spaces.
Amanda Hope, UK Business Development Manager for Advanced, commented: “This is one of Britain’s biggest ever single regeneration projects and, when completed, will have one of the most complex fire systems in the UK. MxPro panels have been selected because they offer not only the quality and reliabity needed for a development of this type, but also because the panel network can be seamlessly expanded as work progresses.
“We’re working very closely with BPSDC and their contractors to specify the right panels and associated components for each phase of the project. Bespoke cause and effect programming will be used for each panel, based on the usage and design of the individual buildings, to ensure maximum protection for the occupants.”
The MxPro 5 is the unbeatable multiprotocol fire system. Approved to EN54-2,4 and 13, it offers four protocols, Apollo, Argus, Hotchiki and Nittan and a completely open installer network that benefits from free training and technical support. Panels can be used in single loop, single panel format or easily configured into high-speed, 200 panel networks covering huge areas. MxPro 5 panels are backwardly compatible with existing MxPro 4 networks and include a host of features including AlarmCalm complete false alarm management and reduction.
To ensure that the system fits seamlessly into the fabric of the buildings on the Battersea Power Station site, sprinkler and AOV vent control panels will be custom-built by AdSpecials, Advanced’s in-house specialist engineering and manufacturing team.
As development progresses, graphical workstations are to be introduced for each phase, with two further master workstations eventually being set up to give scope and control over the entire site if necessary.
Amanda added: “MxPro 5 panels are particularly well-suited to residential and public environments as they include our unique AlarmCalm feature, which uses cause and effect programming to confirm if a fire signal is valid. False alarms can be both inconvenient and costly, especially in a development of this size, so the ability to minimise them is highly beneficial.”
