QSAN Technology announced a technology partnership with Western Digital, to support Ultrastar Data60, which is fully redundant hybrid 4U JBOD disk enclosures, as an expansion solution of QSAN XCubeSAN series storage. The new expansion solution expands the capacity of QSAN storage with high density.

Western Digital Ultrastar Data60 hybrid storage platform has dual IO modules with 6 Mini-SAS HD ports per module and can be populated with up to 60 SAS/SATA drives respectively. By connecting up to 4 expansion units of Ultrastar Data60, XCubeSAN can support up to 266 disk drives or up to 3.7PB of raw storage space when using 14TB Ultrastar DC HC530 HDDs. Ultrastar Data60 is compact, efficient form factor provides the flexibility to specify the HDD and SSD combinations for balancing capacity, performance, and cost.

QSAN selects Western Digital Ultrastar Data60 because it has two innovative technologies. IsoVibe reduces vibration-induced performance degradation, while ArcticFlow overcomes the cooling issues by introducing cool air into the middle of the platform. Both these technologies contribute to long-term reliability.

QSAN XCubeSAN storage with the Ultrastar Data60 high density expansion unit offers highly-reliable, flexible, and cost-effective storage solution. Through adding disk drives and capacity, QSAN also provides a multitude of enterprise features to make storage applications more efficient, including SSD read-write cache (QCache), auto tiering (QTering), snapshot (QSnap), local volume clone (QClone), and other features to realize data acceleration and protection.

“With today's rapid increase in data volumes, our partnership with Western Digital ensures that our joint enterprise customers receive high density expansion solution at a highly competitive price point.” said Wilson Fang, product manager, SAN Product Management, QSAN, “Although QSAN has our own expansion series XCubeDAS with several form factor including 4U 24bays (XD5324), 3U 16 bays (XD5316), 2U 12 bays (XD5312), and 2U 26bays (XD5326) which is the industry’s first high-density chassis, now adding 4U 60 bays (Western Digital Ultrastar Data60) makes the entire series more complete, flexible, and diverse for user’s choice.”

“Data is at the center of every business driving value from data to stay competitive.” Says Stefaan Vervaet, Sr. Director Alliances & Solutions, Western Digital, “With QSAN XCubeSan and Western Digital Hybrid Ultrastar Data60, customers can now efficiently manage and protect their data assets in a highly dense and reliable way while scaling out their architecture as their business grows.

QSAN XCubeSAN series as well as the Ultrastar Data60 JBOD storage platform help customers expand existing capacities or build tailored HDD and SSD combinations to balance performance and reduce costs. QSAN and Western Digital join forces to serve target markets and customer needs while growing their business and maximizing profitability.
