Being a growth market, the Philippines is seeing a robust security industry as well, with numerous companies forecasting growth to be in the double digits. Certain technologies, for example body-worn cameras, analytics and command and control center solutions, are trending amid specific user demands from various vertical markets.

Command and control center

One trend in the Philippines is that end users, whether public or private, want to have centralized control and monitoring of subordinate units throughout the country. This then calls for advanced command and control center solutions.

“The Philippine government is requiring all cities to have video surveillance for security purposes. Therefore in every city there is a command and control center for city surveillance,” said Benjie Fabro, Marketing Manager at USTDI. “And we have a command and control center project in Manila.”

“Most of private companies here would want to move into centralized command and control for all of their facilities or companies,” concurred Ranil “Neil” Reyes, Sales Supervisor at Internet of Things. “One example is food manufacturing. We have a client who is setting up central command control for all of their production sites and offices throughout the Philippines. They want to monitor all the data centers, all their factories, as well as employee attendance.”

Body-worn cameras

Body-worn cameras are also gaining popularity especially in law enforcement, amid the government's effort to crack down on crime and drug-trafficking. Not only can body-worns help protect the lives of police in the line of duty but they can also help gather evidence should future disputes arise.

“Last year, mobile solutions didn't have much traction. But this year, with all the human rights accusations against the government, now policemen are more inclined to have body cameras to protect their integrity and have evidence that they are doing their work,” said Matthew Ang, Product Manager at ISR.

“With body cameras you can have live viewing in your command center. Either you put a SIM card supporting LTE or 3G, or probably you can set up Wi-Fi connectivity,” said Ralph Soguilon, GM of Wireless Link. “They need to monitor what is going on on the ground for traffic enforcers and police, especially with the drug war that we have right now. It's very critical.”

Analytics and AI

Meanwhile, the conversation in security has evolved from post-event investigation to proactivity and prevention. “Traditionally – when it comes to government projects – we frequently talk about the capability of forensic capture being able to identify who committed what crime. That's always been important,” said Winston Goh, Regional Marketing Head for South Asia Pacific at Axis Communications. “But the trend that is going on now is trying to find ways to prevent or to stop incidents altogether, rather than seeing recordings after something happens. We are trying to stop it and prevent it.”

This is where users can be assisted with analytics, which have become more advanced than ever. Already, a lot of them are deep learning-based to achieve further accuracy and precision.
