NCS, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Singtel Group, and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Engine Systems Asia (MHIES-A), a local subsidiary of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, announced that the consortium has been awarded Land Transport Authority of Singapore's (LTA) US$403 million next-generation Electronic Road Pricing system project. The new system is expected to be progressively implemented from 2020 onwards.

The next-generation electronic road pricing system makes use of advanced satellite technology for congestion management. It is first of its kind to be implemented nationwide in an urban environment.

NCS is the consortium lead to integrate the overall system and solution while MHIES-A will provide the intelligent On-Board Unit (OBU) and roadside infrastructure.

“Many urban cities are plagued with traffic congestion challenges. We are honored to be selected by LTA for the implementation of the new system. This project gives us the opportunity to work with LTA and industry players to catalyze innovation and to build the needed capabilities for Singapore's Intelligent Transport Industry, in line with Singapore's Smart Nation vision,” said Chia Wee Boon, Chief Executive Officer of NCS.

Over the years, the consortium has developed advanced capabilities in Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), mobile applications, digital transformation and an open platform for value-added services.

“We have been involved in the Singapore ERP for more than 20 years and we are very honored to be given the subsequent opportunity to play a part in Singapore's transport developments together with LTA and NCS. We have a proven and long-term relationship with NCS and we believe that this state-of-the-art system will be the showcase of GNSS-based transportation system in the urban area to ensure a smooth and seamless travel experience for all motorists,” said Hisaji Takeuchi, Senior General Manager of MHIES-A.
