Metro Pacific Investments (MPIC) announced that one of its units has won a US$595 million contract to develop a toll bridge in the central Philippines. The project includes the construction of the connections to Cebu City and Cordova, the main bridge structure, viaduct, causeway, roadway, and toll facilities.

Construction is said to begin in 2017, and the bridge is expected to be completed in 2020, developed in partnership with the local governments of Cebu City and Cordova on the island of Cebu. It is located approximately 7.5 kilometers south of the Mandaue Bridge, and will reach from the Cebu South Coastal Road, crossing the Mactan channel, to Mactan Island.

During the development of the project, perimeter security would be required to protect the construction site to prevent vandalism and theft. Sophisticated access control systems will be able to deter criminals, as well as keep track of people who enter and leave the area.

The bridge will reportedly help address traffic congestion infesting in two existing bridges connecting Cebu's main island and the island of Mactan, the Marcelo Fernan Bridge and Mandaue Bridge.

As the bridge provides an alternative route for commuters, security measures will be essential. Once the project is completed, license plate recognition (LPR) technology as well as IP cameras with high resolutions will enable authorities to catch culprits and traffic offenders to help keep order on the bridge.
