A NEW investment company that will focus on the ‘green economy' in the region was recently launched by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and two other investment companies.

The ADB said the organisation started the joint venture with a Japanese investment firm, ORIX Corporation and a Dutch-based asset management company Robeco Institutional Asset Management BV.

The joint-venture will be based in Hong Kong and will have an initial capital of US$400 million.

In a press statement, the ADB said that the new company will be “dedicated to investing in renewable energy, clean technology, natural resource efficiency, water, agriculture, forestry and other climate friendly companies and transactions” which can make returns while having a positive environmental and social impact.

ADB said that Asia's economies are among the fastest growing in the world, and faced significant environmental challenges including poor air and water quality and inefficiencies in the utilisation of existing energy and other natural resources.
