As part of the Safe City Test Bed, Airbus Defence and Space has deployed a vehicle-mounted surveillance solution to increase the situational awareness of government agencies by having flexible access to specific areas and persons of interest associated to crime.

The Safe City Test Bed is spearheaded by the Safety and Security Industry Programme Office (SSIPO), jointly established by Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) to develop a Safety and Security industry with innovation capabilities.

The vehicle-mounted CCTV solution provides a rapidly deployable asset which can provide valuable intelligence to support a wide range of tactical or strategic operational events.

The videos recorded from the vehicle are submitted in real time due to the innovative high-speed radio standard Long Term Evolution or LTE.

The Test Bed project includes the development and live testing of innovative technologies and advanced analytics, such as video content, e-sensing and smart city sensors.

This will provide additional intelligence and operational benefits to the government agencies involved – the police and civil defense forces - as well as public urban transport, environmental and utility agencies, with the objective of keeping Singapore safe and secure.

Urbanized environments often face complex public safety and security challenges due to their population density and high volume of incidents occurring daily. It is therefore vital for the relevant authorities to be able to use information optimally to perform situational assessments and respond effectively with the necessary measures.

The Safe City Test Bed aims to enhance innovation capacity in industry to create new solutions which enable government agencies to integrate information and sensors in an automated manner, and derive analytical insights all in real-time. These capabilities, built on top of existing operating systems, are expected to improve situational awareness, inter-agency coordination and anticipation of security threats while optimizing the use of manpower.
