Malaysia is looking at Singapore's experience in its effort to be a global player in the construction industry, says Works Minister Datuk Fadillah Yusof.

"We want to export our expertise and become a global player (in the industry), so we have to make sure that we put our house in order," he told Bernama after meeting with Malaysians in Singapore on Thursday night.

Also present were Malaysian High Commissioner to Singapore Datuk Husni Zai Yaacob.

Fadillah was here on a working visit as a follow-up to the Malaysia-Singapore Leaders Retreat where Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak met his Singapore counterpart Lee Hsien Loong in Putrajaya, Malaysia on April 7 this year.

Fadillah said he was invited by his Singapore counterpart Minister for National Development Khaw Boon Wan.

On his first day, Fadillah visited the Singapore Building Construction Authority (BCA), which is equivalent to Malaysia's Construction Development Board (CIDB).

Fadilah said he was briefed by the BCA on the regulations and standards that have been improved since.

"We are also looking at a BCA institute which produces diploma, degree and masters graduates and is very focused in research and development, and at how Singapore produces solar energy, and other initiatives they are undertaking," he said.

Fadillah also expressed hope that Malaysia, where the ministry and the Public Works Department manage public buildings, could implement real-time monitoring of equipment, contractors and suppliers as developed by Subana Corp, which manages public housing in Singapore.
