A 10-story parking center which can hold 1,000 cars and 800 motorcycles was inaugurated on Saturday in the center of Ho Chi Minh City.

The garage is located at No. 326, Vo Van Kiet Road, District 1, with a total area of more than 32,000 square meters. It includes 9 floors for parking and a ground floor for vehicle maintenance and car wash services.

The $24 million project was developed by Samco.

The building is equipped with 5 elevators for vehicles. An additional 3 are for passengers. An automatic fire alarm system and surveillance cameras are connected to a central control room to monitor the entire operation in the garage.

According to the HCMC Department of Construction, of the 79 tall buildings in downtown HCM City, only 14 have enough room for all the vehicles, 59 lack sufficient space for parking and 6 have no parking area whatsoever.

The latest statistics from the HCM City Department of Transportation also indicate that the city has nearly 600,000 cars, with thousands of additional cars from outside provinces entering the city every day, so that the demand for parking space has become increasingly urgent.

At present, underground parking projects in HCM City still remain on paper.

Recently, the HCM City People's Committee asked the Ministries of Transport and Finance to approve its preferential policies for parking projects, to encourage businesses investment from now to 2020.
