6 villages in Cebu City will help the command center of the City Government by installing their own surveillance cameras. This way, more areas can be monitored and get help in preventing crimes.

Councilor Dave Tumulak, head of the peace and order program of City Hall, said the villages that will install surveillance cameras are Apas, Ermita, Cogon Pardo, Zapatera, Labangon and Mabolo.

Tumulak, who is also the presiding office of the Cebu City Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, met with the officials of the villages last week to discuss the project.

Of the 6 villages, Barangays Labangon and Mabolo already acquired their cameras while the others are yet to buy theirs.

“Once they're available, we will install them and connect their surveillance cameras to our C3 command control center (C3),” he said. Tumulak said it will be the City's job to identify the areas in the villages where the cameras will be installed.

Asked when all the surveillance cameras will be put up, Tumulak said they don't know yet, but they want to have it up and operational within the year.

In a related development, Tumulak said the City will be buying 50 new surveillance cameras. Earlier, Tumulak said the City will only be purchasing 30 units of cameras.

He said they have increased it to 50 units, saying they were able to find cheaper surveillance cameras.
The City now only has 10 surveillance cameras, which are distributed in the city's three districts.
