The data center will apparently be built in the southern city of Busan. Microsoft's US headquarters will control the project while its China office will handle investment. The volume of the project is reportedly in the millions of dollars.

Busan is also the home to local IT service provider LG CNS's data center. The advantage of Busan is proximity to Japan, said LG CNS officials, and advantageous as a hub center for the Asia region.

Microsoft is planning to hire local project managers for the data center development, the company's homage have shown. The team will be under the supervision of Microsoft's Cloud & Enterprise Engineering division and will oversee the construction of the data center.

It will support all the company's current cloud services, such as Windows Azure, Outlook, Bing, Office 365, among others.

Microsoft is already building a data center in China. It is also expanding data centers in US. It recently purchased 202 acres of land to build one.

Cloud is one of Microsoft's most important business arm. The market for cloud computing, which allows users to store data in the 'cloud,' is expected to continue expanding in the coming years.
