The Bangkok's Crime Suppression Unit has chosen Hikvision's mobile surveillance system for monitoring the situations when police officers are patrolling in the streets. The mobile surveillance is used on squad cars and motorcycles, and linked up to the command center for immediate situation analysis.
“One of the environmental challenges when deploying a mobile surveillance system in Thailand is the unstable wireless and 3G coverage. To be able to send images without compromising the quality, the transmission needs to be vamped up,” said Somchai Prajaksoot, Managing Director at Digital Focus – the Hikvision distributor in Thailand.
“We use the dual-stream transmission to solve this problem, allowing proactive surveillance for real-time video viewing, and mobile phone monitoring with minimal bandwidth occupation. The built-in 3G module and GPS module help to locate the whereabouts of each police car. When police officers are called to areas where WiFi is not available, 3G comes into play and send images back to the command center for further dispatch of back up.”
While the specific police programs are still being planned out and tested, the market of the police cars is promising for Hikvision.
