The World Trade Center (WTC) development in Laos' capital Vientiane, the first of its kind in the communist country, will boast the nation's tallest tower, the Gold Office Building, after completion probably in 2014/15.
The World Trade Centre is an ambitious project developed by Lao International Development. Located around 1.5 kilometers from the central Avenue Lane Xang, the building is set to be 150 meters high and to be crowned by a Buddha figure. It will dominate a compound that includes a new shopping complex, residential apartments targeted mostly at executives and a five-star hotel when completed.
Lao International Development believes that after the WTC's completion, the project will remain top in the country as well as achieve a number of successes particularly by hosting the biggest shopping center in the country. The company also claims that the WTC will play "a vital role in improving economy in Laos and approaching it to the global level step by step".
The shopping mall will cover an area of estimated 200,000 square meters and boast a decorated green natural area with large gardens and parking lots that can accommodate 3,000 vehicles, with a modern air condition system and 6 electric elevators and 12 escalators. The Commercial Fashion Street will include restaurants, an IT center, electric toy center, a 3D cinema, and brand name shops.
