The first feasibility study on introducing Japan's bullet train technology, known as Shinkansen, to Indonesia will be conducted next year by a joint government agreement. This puts Japan ahead of rivals, such as China and Korea, to be closer to win the rail contract between Jakarta and Bandung.
Japan International Cooperation Agency will conduct a three-year study in response to Indonesia's plan to build a high-speed railway system on Java Island, to be traveling at up to 300 km/hr. The project is estimated to be 150 kilometers in length and US$4.4 billion (Rp 50 trillion) in cost.
